Steph Curry mocks Grant Williams and the Boston Celtics at the ESPYs as “proud daddy of the Boston Celtics”

The NBA champion Golden State Warriors have a lot of freedom to express themselves. When Steph Curry hosted the ESPY Awards on Wednesday night, he made the most of the opportunity to bash the Boston Celtics.

Curry, a four-time NBA champion and star for the Warriors, had the Boston team in his sights even before the annual awards show started, making fun of them in a show trailer.

In the clip, Curry introduced himself as the “Proud husband of Ayesha Curry, the proud son of Dell Curry, and the proud daddy of the Boston Celtics.”

Curry’s smirk on that last line really twisted the knife for Boston fans.

Curry said, to cheers, “You’re never sure coming down here how an L.A. crowd is going to feel about you, but then I remembered we just beat the Celtics.” We’re all in this together because nothing makes Los Angeles happier than defeating the Boston Celtics.

If only he was finished. Curry kept mentioning the Celtics in his opening remarks as he catered to the Los Angeles audience.

A short while later, Curry spotted Grant Williams in the crowd and immediately started hurling epithets at the backup big man for the Celtics. Williams has been fairly vocal since the Celtics were defeated by the Warriors in six games, and on Wednesday, he asserted that the Celtics were the superior team in the Finals during an interview with Duncan Robinson for “The Long Shot” podcast.

Curry continued, “I might even let you wear a ring.” We shall see.
