Seth Rollins explains real-life issues with Matt Riddle ahead of WWE Clash at the Castle

The arguments between the two started after Riddle’s ex-wife posted something on Instagram in 2019.
Seth Rollins discussed his actual problems with Matt Riddle in an interview with Ariel Helwani to promote Clash at the Castle.

The arguments between Rollins and Riddle started over a 2019 Instagram post in which Becky Lynch and other WWE roster women were body shamed by Riddle’s ex-wife. At Survivor Series 2020, Riddle reportedly apologised to Rollins for his ex-Instagram wife’s post.
In his interview with Helwani, Rollins stated that he has never really liked Riddle’s attitude and that Riddle frequently gets into trouble for saying things he shouldn’t.

I’ve known the man for a long time, but I’ve never really liked his attitude. I’ve never really liked the way he conducts himself. I just want to say, “Dude, pay your dues, work your way up, you’re so good,” because a lot of the guys he sort of disrespected when he was at NXT — the Booker Ts, the Goldbergs, the Brock Lesnars — were way above his pay grade. He is just as incredibly talented in the ring as he was in the Octagon. But that has never been his problem; rather, it is getting his head in the right place so that he can perform consistently. He’s trying to talk his way to the top, which I respect in some ways. But at the same time, you’re going to get there, just work your way up the right way. So, I never really liked that,” Rollins said.

“For better or worse, she was body-shaming, that’s the only way I can put it, my wife and some of the other girls in the locker room, completely unprovoked, during an incident with his now-ex-wife, and he was sort of taking her side. I recognise that as a husband, you must support your wife, but there are times when you should also be able to zip your trap. I just said, “You gotta shut up,” because I felt like he was siding with her. In essence, the cat makes an inappropriate mouth opening. He says inappropriate things at inappropriate times, which gets him into trouble. The way he conducts himself bothers me.”

The Instagram post from Riddle’s ex-wife wasn’t related to a plot, according to Rollins, and he doesn’t understand why she felt the need to voice her opinion.

Riddle was called up to the main roster, and Rollins informed Helwani that he didn’t want to work with Riddle. Rollins referred to himself as a professional and stated that he handles situations appropriately on both sides of the camera when asked if he has a problem working with Riddle right now.

Rollins claimed, “I get the job done because I’m a professional. “No matter what has happened backstage, in my opinion, everyone I’ve ever worked with is a different person when the red light comes on and we’re in front of the audience. A different environment exists backstage as well. As if we never go out, hang out, go to bars, party, or do anything similar—probably not even share a slice of pizza—there are Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle backstage. Additionally, Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins are in the ring. I handle things professionally on both sides of the camera because, as I’ve already stated, I’m a professional.”

The backstory for Rollins and Riddle’s Clash at the Castle match has been incorporated into it. A heated argument between the two on Raw earlier this week ended with Rollins bringing up Riddle’s ex-wife. When Riddle mentioned Lynch, Rollins retorted that Riddle didn’t have a family because his wife had left him, taken their children, and they no longer wanted to see him.

Cardiff, Wales’ Principality Stadium will host Clash at the Castle this afternoon. Starting at noon Eastern time, Peacock/WWE Network will stream the pay-per-view live.

This morning, the first segment of Helwani’s interview with Rollins was made available.
