Rakim Mayers, better known by his stage name A$AP Rocky, is accused of using a firearm personally in two counts of assault with a semiautomatic weapon. The rapper has been charged, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, who made the announcement on Monday.
In a statement, Gascón said, “Dispersion of a firearm in a public place is a serious offence that could have resulted in tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood.” “After carefully examining the evidence in this case, my office concluded that it was appropriate to add a special firearm allegation.”

On suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Mayers was taken into custody in April at the Los Angeles International Airport. Three hours later, after posting a $550,000 bond, he was freed.
A non-fatal shooting was reportedly reported by the Los Angeles Police Department to involve Mayers. On November 6, 2021, the incident happened in Hollywood. According to reports, Mayers pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the victim before pulling the trigger twice in their direction. No one was hurt, but one bullet grazed the victim’s left hand and necessitated medical attention. The suspect and two other party members were then seen running away from the scene on foot.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s press release also refers to the shooting victim as a “former friend” of Mayers.
On August 17, Mayers will be arraigned in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. The LAPD is still looking into the shooting, which is still a live case.
